ALTE NATIONALGALERIE
GUIDED TOUR
Alte Nationalgalerie: Art from Classicism to Romanticism
The Alte Nationalgalerie (the Old National Gallery) houses one of the finest collections of German and French masterpieces of the 19th century. It does not only give insights into art, but also into the ways of life and moral concepts of the society of that time.
In the entrance axis of the Alte Nationalgalerie, the rebellious Princess group by Johann Gottfried Schadow welcomes the visitors. In addition to paintings by Caspar David Friedrich, Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Adolph Menzel and Max Liebermann, also the French Impressionists Auguste Rodin, Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir are highlights of the exhibition. The company's interaction with the events of the time was captured in the art, similar to an expressive documentation.
Berlin Temple of Art on Museumsinsel
Not only the exhibited masterpieces are significant, also the museum itself, planned by Friedrich August Stüler, is another link on the Acropolis of arts: the Museumsinsel.
